Monday, 4th October, is World Animal Day! World Animal Day isn't a new addition to the calendar; it was started in 1931 at a meeting of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of rare species. Since then it has grown to cover all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world. October 4 was chosen as it's the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It is planned as a day of celebration for everyone in the world who cares about animals and is not limited to any one nationality, creed, religion, political belief or ideology.
The official World Animal Day website was launched on 4 October 2003 with the aim of encouraging everybody to use this special day to commemorate their love and respect for animals and rejoice our special relationship with the animal kingdom. The improved alertness of animal issues this initiative creates will lead the way to improved values of animal welfare throughout the globe – and what an attainment that will be!
It is a great honors for me to be the UK Ambassador for World Animal Day and Here in the UK, we are lucky enough to have three Celebrity Ambassadors who 'walk the talk' in support of the World Animal Day plan and would be pleased to make themselves offered to you for interviews.
According to Anneka Svenska – Wildlife Presenter and Conservationist
"World Animal Day is a wonderful chance for animal lovers all over the world to come together in solidarity over one extremely important cause: to save and protect the animals on our planet and the delicate environment they live in. Without animals in the world it would be a very sad place. We must learn to protect and nurture them to ensure the world will always be a place where they can roam free and never become extinct."
